This Is War

Advent means coming.

We often think of Advent as the time a baby is born, meek and mild, and laying in a manger no crying He makes (yeah right!). We often think of cozy little hay beds and fluffy winged angels and shepherds with red cheeks. I wonder, did the cattle barn have Christmas lights?

Get rid of that sentimentality a minute. You can keep the lights on your house. When the baby was born it was a dirty ordeal. I have witnessed three children being born and I was in a hospital all three times…its a mess. What Mary, Joseph, and Jesus went through was a troubling event in a very dirty place. There was nothing pretty about it, except the fact that a baby was born. Mom was scared, dad was scared, and now they have a crying baby. I’m pretty sure the animals were freaked out. And think, what was the baby born in to? War.

Christmas is not just a sweet time to remember chubby leg rolls on plump little babies. It is that, but it is more.

The reality of Christmas is that the King of Heaven was born on earth to lead the Kingdom from Heaven against the kingdoms of this world. The King of heaven and earth has come, Christians are His citizens, and we are invading every kingdom and nation on earth to bring them into submission to the Son. We do this because we desire what He desires,

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.”

We desire the Kingdom from Heaven to overcome and and infiltrate the kingdoms of this earth, and in the last 2,000 years since the birth of the King we can say that this program has been successful, albeit not done yet (1 Corinthians 15:25-26).

Advent means that the kingdoms of this world will be delivered to the King. All His enemies will be subdued, even death itself. The Advent of the King means that the sin of His people has been removed. The ruler of this world is no longer the Devil, but the Son. The grave is no longer the reward for Kingdom citizens, but resurrection.

All that is left is for men, nations, and empires to fall in line.

Advent means they don’t stand a chance.
